Day 1 - Travel to Interlaken and the lakes and mountains

Travel to Switzerland by air or rail from London, then continue by rail to Interlaken.

Day 2-4 - Explore the stunning Bernese Oberland

There is so much on offer here with your Swiss Travel Pass which you could use for free unlimited travel on the Lakes of Thun & Brienz. A favourite trip is a leisurely cruise from Interlaken to Brienz with a half price trip on the Brienzer Rothorn steam railway which has been chugging away since 1892. You can also travel for free to the alpine villages of Wengen and Grindelwald. From here, the mountain railways and cable cars are offered with up to 50% reduction, or a memorable visit to the Jungfraujoch is available at 25% reduction.

Day 5 - Travel on two lesser known but fabulous scenic journeys to Locarno

Travel from Interlaken by rail to Spiez and join the Lötschberg Regio Express to Brig on the old, looping route via Kandersteg. Onward travel is by international train to Domodossola in Italy where you board the charming Centovalli Line to Locarno. Although there are three changes on this route it is well worthwhile to enjoy the changing scenery.

Day 6-7 - Enjoy the sunny Ticino region of Switzerland

Locarno is an ideal place to relax and enjoy the dolce vita with the famous Piazza Grande boutique shops and an inviting Mediterranean-style café culture. Your free Ticino Ticket gives you free travel on local transport including to the beautiful lakeside resort of Ascona. Historic Bellinzona with its famous three castles and Lugano with its fabulous lake promenade are also worth visiting.

Day 8 - Gotthard Panorama Express - a 1st class rail and boat journey to Lucerne

Your next adventure is at a leisurely pace on the Gotthard Panorama Express. This unforgettable journey starts in special panoramic 1st class coaches for the spectacular journey through the original Gotthard Tunnel before meandering down to Flüelen. Here you board the lake steamer's 1st class upper deck for your 2½ hour cruise criss-crossing beautiful the beautiful lake all the way to the attractive town of Lucerne.

Day 9-11 - Lakeside Lucerne and the mountains of Central Switzerland

With your Swiss Travel Pass, Lucerne is perfectly placed to enjoy free travel around the dramatic scenery of Central Switzerland. A lake cruise is a great way to connect with your mountain trips. Also included free with your Swiss Travel Pass are the famous old cog railway or cable car to the stunning peak of Mount Rigi, the Stanserhorn open top deck cable car and the Stoos funicular, or trips further afield to Bern.
