Start by exploring Zug's picturesque Old Town, where cobbled streets, historic buildings and charming squares lead down to the lakeside. The famous Zytturm clock tower provides excellent views over the rooftops, lake and mountains beyond. A cruise on beautiful Lake Zug is a wonderful way to appreciate the scenery, with regular boats connecting lakeside towns and villages. The lakeside promenade is ideal for a leisurely stroll, particularly in the evening when Zug is famed for its spectacular sunsets.

Zugerberg is the local mountain and the funicular will take you up to the peak in less than 10 minutes. Once at the top you can embark upon a good choice of walking trails with lovely views over the lake and across to the Alps. Trottibikes are great fun for riding all the way back to Zug. On another day, take the short train ride to Lindt Home Of Chocolate where you can discover the history of the sweet stuff and try plenty for yourself!

A little further afield but still within easy reach is one of the region's finest excursions: Mount Rigi, known as the 'Queen of the Mountains', with its panoramic views and network of scenic walking trails. Mount Pilatus and Stanserhorn are also well worth a visit, offering memorable days. Lucerne is always popular - spend a day here enjoying the Old Town and the glorious lake ringed by high mountains. The city of Zurich is only a short train journey away and offers world-class shopping, museums and cultural attractions. 

There are several excellent opportunities to visit UNESCO World Heritage Sites during your stay in Zug. The charming Old Town of Bern, can be reached easily by rail and boasts beautifully preserved medieval architecture, arcaded streets and historic fountains.
