Ideal for a quiet holiday in the heart of the mountains, visitors reach the traffic-free village of Mürren by cable car and mountain railway from Lauterbrunnen or cable car from Stechelberg. This delightful alpine village with its cosy flower-decked restaurants and bars boasts breathtaking views, surrounded by outstanding beauty. With the glorious mountains and the lush valley close at hand, this is also a walker’s paradise.
Mürren nestles at the foot of the Schilthorn with its revolving Piz Gloria restaurant made famous by a James Bond film. The Schilthorn is reached from Mürren by cable car up to 3,000m and offers mesmerising views - on a clear day you can even see as far as the Black Forest and Mont Blanc. Guests staying at the Hotel Alpenruh can choose to have their breakfast one morning up in the Schilthorn restaurant - what a fabulous way to start the day!

What to see and do from Mürren
The village of Mürren lies beneath the impressive Schilthorn-Piz Gloria with a stunning ride by cable car to Piz Gloria, one of the original revolving restaurants in the Alps and which was made famous by the James Bond film 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service'.
Another mountain excursion close to Mürren is the fabulous Allmendhubel at 1,907m - the perfect place to relax and enjoy splendid views of the snow-capped alpine peaks on the opposite side of the valley. Allmendhubel is also an ideal starting point for many of the most beautiful hikes in the region. You could take an enjoyable walk (or train ride) down the valley to Lauterbrunnen, from where you can connect to the pretty resort of Wengen and on to Männlichen with its stunning views.
We recommend travelling by PostBus to experience the impressive Trümmelbach Falls which carry meltwater from the glacier down into the mountain at 20,000 litres per second. It is also simple to travel down to Interlaken to enjoy the delights of lakes Thun & Brienz. Please click here for our summary of the best the region has to offer.
