Morges Holidays 2025 / 2026

Picturesque town on Lake Geneva, famous for its flowers

Morges is a picturesque lakeside town in Switzerland, ideally located just 40 minutes by train from Geneva airport and close to Lausanne and Montreux - making it a perfect base for a weekend getaway or a longer stay beside the lake to explore the whole area.

With its wide choice of restaurants, cafés, and bars, this is a welcoming spot to relax and enjoy the local cuisine. The town offers a range of things to do including scenic walks from gentle strolls to the Morges vineyards (1-4 miles) to a beautiful 4-mile castle-to-castle route. Nature lovers will enjoy the Parc de l’Indépendance, which is particularly stunning during the Tulip Festival (late March to mid-May) when more than 100,000 flowers adorn the park. From May to June the gardens of Vullierens Castle display a fabulous collection of irises and lilies, and from July to October it's the turn of the Dahlia Festival when over 2,000 dahlias of a beautiful array of shapes and colours line the lakeside promenade.

From the Lake Geneva promenade you can enjoy breath-taking views of Mont Blanc on clear days. Morges is also rich in culture and history, with its lakeside castle, engaging museums, and vibrant markets. Audrey Hepburn lived for many years in a nearby village: follow in her footsteps from Morges’ town hall, where she got married in 1969, to the town’s market where she used to shop. It is fitting that Hepburn chose elegant Morges to be her home. Hotel guests benefit from the FREE Morges Région Slow Pass, allowing you to hop on and off the local buses and trains.

What to see and do from Morges

From April to October, boats call regularly at Morges and a cruise on Lake Geneva is highly recommended. You can cross the water to visit France, or cruise along the shoreline to Lausanne and Montreux, or head in the opposite direction to Nyon and Geneva itself. Time it right and your cruise could be aboard a nostalgic paddle steamer.

Morges has plenty of history with its medieval castle and nearby chateau vineyards. You can find even older delights in Nyon, which is well worth a day trip. Impressive Roman columns still stand here as well as an amphitheatre only recently discovered. The fascinating Roman museum showcases many finds from the area including sculptures, tableware, coins and jewellery. Geneva is also well worth visiting and you can easily spend a day exploring the historic streets and visiting museums including the Patek Philippe Museum with over 5 centuries' of watchmaking tradition.

Another highlight is the Lavaux vineyards, where you can take a walk amongst the vines and try the local wine. If you would like to visit the mountains, Les Rochers-de-Naye is a popular destination for fantastic views over Lake Geneva. Superb alternative to a Geneva airport hotel

Instead of a bland airport hotel, we highly recommend a stay in pretty Morges. Just 40 minutes by train from the airport, this is a much more pleasant place for a stopover during your journey. In fact, why not stay 2 nights and enjoy the lake, the views and the town's joie de vivre.
