Highlights

Journey into the mountains

The Corvatsch mountain is easily accessible from Sils, St. Moritz and Pontresina, being located just along the valley at Surlej, beside Lake Silvaplana. The modern cable cars leave Surlej to take you to the middle station at 2,702m. You can stretch your legs here or stay on for the summit station at an amazing 3,303m above sea level. There are fantastic views all along the way.

A second recommended cable car journey is possible in the area, from Sils to Furtschellas at 2,312m.

Refreshments

The Corvatsch area offers half a dozen mountain restaurants which are perfect for a spot of lunch with a scenic view. The Panorama restaurant at the summit station is the highest in the Graubünden region and is well known for it superb views and locally sourced ingredients. The middle station also has a restaurant, great for coffee and cake, and a children's play area. Over at Furtschellas, the mountain restaurant has fresh pasta and a wonderful sun terrace.

ORMA Corvatsch edition whisky

In a rocky cellar at the Corvatsch top station there lies a store of whisky barrels, containing the exclusive malt whisky known as ORMA. This is produced on the Corvatsch, in the world's highest whisky distillery! The altitude has a fascinating effect - the distillation process begins at a temperature about ten degrees lower than at sea level, which enhances the flavour and gives a greater complexity. Visitors can pre-book a guided tour of the distillery and tasting session on selected dates throughout the year.

Memorable alpine walks

A wonderful area for walkers of all abilities. Try the 3 hour walk from the middle station back down to St. Moritz. The trail leads down to Lej de la Fuorcla and then a viewpoint with a superb view of the valley. As you continue the descent you may spot wood grouse and the Restaurant Hahensee. The path continues through the forest towards two more small mountain lakes before entering St. Moritz.

There is another recommended trail which leads across from the middle station to Furtschellas, from where you can take the cable car back down the mountain. On Furtschellas itself, try the Water Trail which takes you past 6 crystal clear mountain lakes on a 2½ hour walk. Numerous vantage points invite you to linger and enjoy the views.

Families

There are playgrounds at the Corvatsch middle station and at Furtschellas, where you will also find a petting zoo. This well kept area is a real treat and includes pygmy goats and mountain rabbits, which children can pet to their heart's content.

Directions

You can take the bus from Pontresina or St. Moritz to the Corvatsch valley station at Surlej on Lake Silvaplana. The cable car then departs regularly to the middle station and the summit station.

Alternatively, stay on the bus until Sils at the far end of the lake, where you can join the cable car for Furtschellas.

Please check before travel for maintenance closures.
