Highlights

Journey to Rosswald

The cable car journey is via a modern 6 person gondola and offers lovely views over the valley as you travel up. Departures are regular throughout the day.

Walking

There are several recommended mountain walks in the area. Try the 4km water trail which takes you on a wide forest road in the direction of Stafel and then Wasserleite, where you walk along the small stream. After the pleasant hike you will arrive back into Rosswald.

Another 6km circular trail takes you down through the forest after which you will have a beautiful view over the whole Simplon area. A second forest path follows and an ascent to the Fleschboden and views over the Rhone Valley. Finally it's an easy walk back down to Saflischmatte and Rosswald.

Refreshments

In this area, you can treat yourself to typical fondues made with local Valaisian cheese and crisp Valais white wine.

Just next to the cable car station is the Klenenhorn mountain restaurant, with its large sun terrace and wonderful views over the valley.

If you take the walk up to Fleschboden, you can rest at the restaurant situated at 2,135m with beautiful panoramic views of the Valais mountains. This restaurant also has a large sun terrace.

Mountain lake

The cooling water of the picturesque lake will be welcome for tired feet after your walks.

Children can also enjoy splashing in the water and playing in the nearby meadow with its climbing activities.

Winter activities

Visit during the winter and you can try your hand at sledging. The toboggan run from Rosswald leads over 15km back down through the forest to the valley station. On Fridays and Saturdays this activity can be enjoyed by torchlight.

Snowshoeing is also fun - a gentle walk through snow-covered woods or a vigorous walk to Saflisch and great views. A warming fondue back in Rossald makes the perfect end to your walk.

Activities are payable locally.

Directions

You can take the regular bus from Brig to the valley station of the cable car at Ried-Brig, a journey of around 30 minutes.

The gondola cable car then takes you up to Rosswald in about 7 minutes.

Please check before travel for maintenance closures.
