Here you can stretch your legs, enjoy a warm drink and spot many species of alpine blooms. The final part of the journey is on the highest cableway in Europe to the Klein Matterhorn station at 3,883m. The gondolas and cable cars are equipped with a unique audio information system. Highlights

Viewing platform

On arrival at the top station, visitors can head for the summit lift, which transports you to the highest viewing platform in the Alps at 3,883m. A 360º panorama opens up, taking in 38 peaks all over 4,000m as well as 14 glaciers across 3 countries. On most days you can see Mont Blanc and Gran Paradiso - Italy's highest peak - as well as enjoying the finest views of the south face of the iconic Matterhorn itself.

Breithorn panoramic window

In the middle of the mountain you will find a panoramic window hewn into the rock, with a view of the Breithorn. You can watch the climbers making their way up the mountain and the birds circling over the Theodul Glacier. There is also a 'mini-Matterhorn' next to the window, perfect for a souvenir photo.

Glacier palace

Glittering ice crystals and shimmering ice sculptures cast their spell over visitors to the world's highest glacier palace. A lift takes you 15m below the surface to a fairytale palace in the heart of the eternal ice. Walk through a glacier crevasse or try out the ice slide, before making yourself comfortable on an ice bench covered with cosy furs. Admission payable locally.

Cinema lounge

Next to the Breithorn window is a brand new cinema lounge. The screen shows film clips on themes such as mountaineering, alpine flora & fauna and thrilling freeride skiing.

Restaurant

The renovated restaurant at almost 4,000m has large panoramic windows with a magnificent vista over the Alps. A wonderful spot to enjoy the views while you try Valais specialities or a traditional fondue. Open 08.30-16.30, with hot food served 11.30-15.30.

Shopping

Find a Matterhorn souvenir, including the highest altitude wine (Gipfelwein) in Europe.

Snow tubing

Superb fun for young and old - whizz down the slopes in an inflatable rubber doughnut. This activity is free of charge and is suitable for children from 6 years old. Open mid May-mid September.

Summer skiing

Skiers will be delighted to find that they can ski throughout the summer on the 21km of glacier pistes.

Matterhorn Alpine Crossing

The fantastic Matterhorn Alpine Crossing is now open - a brand new cableway linking Zermatt & the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise with the Italian town of Cervinia. Although the crossing in several stages of cable car takes 90 minutes, with so much to do, this will be a full day, with beautiful views, a thrilling ride and the chance to experience the Italian side of the Alps. Read more about the experience here.

Directions

Your scenic journey departs from Zermatt's valley station. Take the 8 seater gondola to the Furi station, followed by the cable car to the Trockener Steg station - where you can stop for a drink or snack at the restaurant - and a final cable car to the Glacier Paradise at the peak of the Klein Matterhorn.

The transport network operates 08.30-17.00, with a longer sunrise/sunset timetable available from mid July-mid August.

Please note that when the Furi-Trockener Steg section is closed, you can travel to the Glacier Paradise via Schwarzsee at no extra cost. Please check before travel for maintenance closures.
