Why not visit Interlaken's very own 'house' mountain. It is just an eight minute trip up by funicular to the Harder Kulm which is 1,322m above sea level. It may be a short ride up to the summit but you will be rewarded with amazing views. This is definitely a half day excursion which is not to be missed and is ideal for those who are just passing through Interlaken or only staying for a short duration as it is so easily reached. Harder Kulm also has a children's playground.

The Two Lakes Bridge

The Two Lakes Bridge is west of the restaurant at 1,322m above sea level. An amazing steel structure supports the large platform and visitors can look down below through a glass surface. There are breathtaking views over Interlaken, lakes Thun and Brienz and the surrounding area. You can also cast your gaze upon the beautiful Jungfrau mountains.

Hiking trails

The Harder Kulm is the starting point for many mountain hikes. You can even walk from Interlaken up to the Kulm rather than take the funicular.

These are some examples of the trails from Harder Kulm:

An easy Harder Kulm trail - 50 mins
Interlaken Ost - Harder Kulm - 2hrs 20mins
Harder Kulm - Unterseen -  1hr 30mins
Harder Kulm - Ringgenberg -  1hr 45mins
Harder Kulm - Roteflue - Horetalp - Habkern -  4hrs 20 mins
Harder Kulm - Augstmatthorn - 5hrs 30mins

At the summit there is a wonderful restaurant that looks like a small castle where you can enjoy the magnificent bird's eye views of Interlaken. The Harder Kulm restaurant is open daily from 09.30 to 18.30 for breakfast, lunch, an afternoon snack or a glass of wine to sip as you enjoy the views. An additional Jungfrau Panorama room has recently opened, with additional seating and huge windows, perfect for taking in the mountain views.

In the long summer evenings, you will find the restaurant open until 21.15 for sunset suppers.

Harder Sunday breakfast

Every Sunday between April and October you can make your way to the Harder Kulm and have a hearty breakfast in the panoramic restaurant or on the sun terrace.

Available until 11am each Sunday morning.

Folklore Show

From May to October, there are live folklore shows at the Harder Kulm. Enjoy the traditional Swiss music from performers in folklore dress as you gaze out over the magnificent scenery.

Children's Playground

Children can let off steam in the new alpine playground which is located just next to the restaurant.

Harder Kulm is easily accessible, with the funicular base station right next to Interlaken Ost train station. There are frequent services up to the Harder Kulm between April and November and only during bad weather are services limited.

You can leave Interlaken and be on the mountain of Harder Kulm in just eight minutes.

Please check before travel for maintenance closures.
