All details shown are valid for travellers using a full British Citizen passport. Other nationalities should check with the Swiss Embassy.

Passports

For Switzerland, your passport must be:


  • issued less than 10 years before the date you enter the country (check the ‘date of issue’)
  • valid for at least 3 months after the day you plan to leave (check the ‘expiry date’)

You must check your passport meets these requirements before you travel. If your passport was issued before 1 October 2018, extra months may have been added to its expiry date.

You should always get appropriate travel insurance with healthcare cover before you go abroad.

You can use the UK GHIC (Global Health Insurance Card) in Switzerland if you're a UK national, a Swiss national or a citizen of an EU member state. You may be asked for proof of your nationality or your status when using your UK GHIC in Switzerland. The Card should NOT be relied on as a substitute for adequate health insurance.

Roaming charges were abolished in 2017 for countries in the EU and EEA based on EU law.


However, this law does not apply to Switzerland and free mobile phone roaming was never guaranteed for Switzerland. Whether roaming charges apply or not, depends on the respective plans offered by your mobile provider.
