Coronavirus And The Situation In Switzerland

Latest news from our Swiss partners

Switzerland is a country renowned for its cleanliness and fresh mountain air. The lakes and mountains provide the perfect landscape in which to relax as we all start to enjoy holidays abroad once more.

The Swiss tourism industry has been working very hard to prepare to welcome visitors back safely. Hotels, restaurants, cafés and cable cars are open and the trains have resumed their normal timetable. Swiss border restrictions were lifted for UK passport holders on 15th June, and we know from talking with our friendly hoteliers that they are reserving a particularly warm welcome for our guests! The government has advised against all non-essential travel for UK passport holders from the UK to Switzerland for the time being, however, this is under constant review. Customer testimony - holiday taken late July 2020

Flights and rail to the resort

Manchester Airport was fine, if very quiet with limited food outlets open. The face mask rule was strictly adhered to. It was easy to wear it on the flight, but I recommend the disposable ones with a nose wire for people wearing glasses so as not to steam up. Passport control and bag collection were very quick. The trains to the resort were so clean and efficient, running straight out of Geneva airport. UK trains and stations are nowhere near this standard. The mask rule was adhered to throughout.

Hotel and dining

Covid signage was good but discreet and there were lots of nice smelling hand gel points. There was good social distancing in the hotel, and there were screens at reception and chairs/tables were separated out. As half board guests we were sat at the same table throughout.

Days out

We were able to do everything that we wanted to do as trains, cable cars and buses were all running. Face masks and social distancing (where possible) were in place throughout. This was not off-putting - being largely outdoors and walking, it was easy to forget we were in a global pandemic. Restaurant tables and chairs were wiped down between guests, even those sat outdoors. We were not asked to provide contact details but would have been happy to do so. The atmosphere was very good and very cheerful. It’s hard to put in words how much fun it was to eat pretzels and drink beer on the top of a mountain whilst surrounded by bell ringing mountain goats!

General

We felt a bit anxious as the holiday date approached but it quickly went as we got the details and comprehensive travel package from Swiss Holiday Company. Also when we first arrived at Manchester and were getting used to the face mask. The plane was busy, but everyone kept masks on and easyJet had risk assessed flights very effectively. The atmosphere on holiday was excellent and Covid precautions quite discreet which made it relaxing. Social distancing was generally well observed by tourists and locals.

I would absolutely recommend Switzerland as a holiday - very safe at the moment and a wonderful hidden gem. 5 days was too short!
