Gault & Millau Restaurant Guide

The prestigious guide to fine dining in Switzerland

Many of our hotel descriptions mention that their restaurants have been recognised in the Gault & Millau restaurant guide. The guide was started in France by Henri Gault and Christian Millau and has developed to include Germany, Benelux, Austria and Switzerland. The Swiss version was established in 1982 and is one of the most influential fine dining guides in the country. It uses points for its rating system and only restaurants with between 12-20 points are listed, including the top 100 hotel restaurants.

Please see below for our partner hotels which are featured in the 2024 guide. We will be happy to offer further advice on our favourite gourmet hotels.

Two centre fine dining holidays

We are delighted to suggest a number of two centre gourmet holidays. These combine resorts featuring some of our favourite Gault & Millau hotel restaurants with selected scenic rail journeys.

Small and inviting

A wonderful combination of the lakeside village of Weggis with the small mountain resort of Kandersteg. The journey between them is a delight, travelling on the Luzern-Interlaken Express and then the looping Lötschberg Regio Express to Kandersteg.

On the route of the Glacier Express

Brig and Chur are both attractive historical towns which make great bases for exploring the diverse regions of the Valais and Graubünden. They are linked by the 4 hour Glacier Express scenic rail journey over high mountain passes. Lunch on board is included.

Classic lakes and mountains

A wonderful combination of the historic lakeside resort of Lucerne with the iconic mountain resort of Zermatt, overlooked by the Matterhorn. The journey between the resorts can include the Luzern-Interlaken Express and the Lötschberg Regio Express.

Lake Geneva vineyards and the high Alps

A diverse combination of resorts, with the grand traditional lakeside town of Montreux and the alpine scenery of Arosa. Linking the resorts is a journey on the Glacier Express with lunch on board and the scenic Arosa Line up into the mountains.
