Holidays in Brunnen - Switzerland Nestling on the lake in the heart of Wilhelm Tell country

This delightful village enjoys a unique lakes and mountains landscape on the corner of the shore between Mt Rigi and Fronalpstock. Brunnen sits peacefully on the lakeside, with stunning views down the length of Lake Uri to the snowy peaks around Gotthard. This is the heart of Switzerland, with the Rütli Meadow - birthplace of the Swiss Confederation - close at hand. The colourful Treib assembly house is now a restaurant and lies just across the lake from the village. The historic Axis Road with its artistic buildings cut into the steep rocks on the eastern shore of Lake Uri has linked Brunnen with Flüelen since 1865. This is also Wilhelm Tell country and you will find many reminders of his story in the area, particularly along the path of the Swiss Trail. Brunnen has always attracted famous visitors to its fairytale scenery including Queen Victoria, Churchill and Turner, who painted several watercolours here.

During the summer, you can head to the lively lakeshore for traditional alphorn concerts and to watch the sail boat races. Brunnen is well connected for exploring the region and has a nearby cable car to take you to Urmiberg. This local mountain high above the lake makes for the perfect place to relax and enjoy the spectacular view. You could also take the bus to Morschach's cable car station for journeys to the idyllic village of Stoos, with its authentic alpine cottages, and on to Fronalpstock with beautiful views from the sunny plateau.

A short hop to Treib brings you to the funicular for Seelisberg, from where you can enjoy views over Urnersee and the Rütli Meadow.
