Day 1. Arrive and explore Lucerne
Flight from the UK to Zurich with rail travel to Lucerne.
Check in to your hotel for your 7 night stay and get to know this charming town. Lucerne has many attractions, from the historical Old Town with its Chapel Bridge and beautiful old buildings to the numerous restaurants and bars with flower-decked terraces and lake views. It is easy to head out to explore the lakes and mountains surrounding the town. We have recommended just a few here but will be happy to advise you on others you may have in mind.
Day 2. Explore Lake Lucerne
A leisurely cruise on the sparkling lake is a must. Your Pass allows you to fully explore the lake - you could alight at Weggis or Brunnen to experience lakeside village life. Alternatively, stay on board and cruise to the Rütli meadow - the historic heart of Switzerland - and on to Tell's Rock where the national hero's story took place. There are plenty of lakeside walks to enjoy along the way, or continue all the way to Flüelen. You can lunch on board while taking in idyllic views of meadows, bays and mountains.
Day 3. Mount Pilatus
On a clear day, you can see 73 alpine peaks from the summit of Pilatus! Visit the 'Dragon Mountain' on the Golden Round Tour, which is covered with your Pass. Cruise to Alpnachstad, then it's a spectacular ride on the world's steepest cog railway to Pilatus Kulm. On the way down, take the cable car with panoramic views to Kriens and a bus trip home. An alternative is the brand new cable car from Fräkmüntegg to Pilatus and there is also fantastic summer toboggan run and plenty of walking trails.
Day 4. Luzern-Interlaken Express
The incredible value of the Pass allows you to travel further afield. Why not board the carriages of the Luzern-Interlaken Express with their huge panoramic windows and enjoy the scenic countryside en route to Interlaken. You'll cross the stunning Brünig Pass at 1003m and experience the landscapes of the Hasliberg region. You could follow the track along the shore of Lake Brienz into Interlaken for lunch or change trains to visit pretty Meiringen. All these journeys are included in your Pass.
Day 5. Mount Rigi
Known as 'Queen of the Mountains', an excursion to Rigi will be a day to remember. The journey itself is fabulous: a lake steamer to Vitznau followed by a trip on the oldest cog railway in Europe (1871) to Rigi Kulm for stunning views over the Alps and no less than 13 lakes. There is a network of alpine trails to enjoy as well as plenty of mountain restaurants for lunch. Return to Rigi Kaltbad, from where it is a cable car to Weggis and back on the lake to Lucerne, with all your travel included in your Pass.
Day 6. Bürgenstock & Hammetschwand
This is a highly recommended trip offering stunning views which visitors have been enjoying for over 100 years. Your Pass covers the lake steamer to Stansstad and then the PostBus to Bürgenstock. Here you can stroll around the peninsula and enjoy a drink at the newly renovated Taverne 1879. Once refreshed, it is a 35 minute walk to the amazing 100m outdoor lift at Hammetschwand (also included). Once at the top, you will have breathtaking views at 1132m of Lake Lucerne and the Alps.
Day 7. A day in Lucerne
Lucerne has so much to offer. Why not start your day at the moving Lion Monument, which depicts a dying lion and commemorates the Swiss Guards who fought in the French Revolution. Visit one of the many museums, or try a guided tour, offering fascinating insights into Lucerne's history and culture. You could also browse through the shops of the pedestrianised streets of the Old Town or simply enjoy a coffee on one of the picturesque squares. A nice alternative if you prefer walking to city life is The Swiss Trail .
Day 8. Last day
Your last chance to browse through Lucerne's boutiques for a Swiss souvenir, or perhaps enjoy one more view of the old city walls and the Chapel Bridge. Wander along the lake and breathe in your last mountain views before taking the train back to Zurich airport for your flight home.
Please note: the Tell Pass is available April-October and operating periods vary for some mountain railways. Please check with us before booking if there is a particular trip you would like to make.
