Day 1. Arrive and explore Lucerne with all that you expect from a Swiss holiday
Flight from the UK to Zurich airport with rail travel to Lucerne. Check in to your hotel for your 3 night stay and enjoy your first look around Lucerne.
Days 2-3. In and around Central Switzerland
With your Swiss Travel Pass, Lucerne is the perfect spot from which to enjoy FREE travel around the dramatic scenery of Central Switzerland. You should make time to explore the mountains including the famous old cog railway to the stunning peak of Mount Rigi and glorious Mount Pilatus. Alternative trips further afield: Bern, Interlaken, or Lake Constance on the German border! Other mountain railways and cable cars are available at a 50% reduction.
Day 4. Gotthard Panorama Express to Locarno
This unforgettable journey starts with a 2½ hour cruise on a vintage paddle steamer or saloon motor vessel, while taking in the beautiful sights of Lake Lucerne all the way to Flüelen. You’ll then join your train for some of the highlights of a spectacular journey past the Devil’s Bridge and through the original Gotthard Tunnel before meandering down into the Ticino region and the town of Locarno for the next 2 nights.
Day 5. Experience Italian Switzerland: culture, language and an abundance of Italian restaurants
The mountains are never far away and with your Swiss Travel Pass you can reach the beautiful church of Madonna del Sasso at Orselina. The historic town of Bellinzona is well worth a visit, with three medieval castles demonstrating the historical importance of the town.
Day 6. Travel to Brig on Centovalli Line
The journey begins on the Centovalli Line which meanders alongside wild canyons and dreamy villages to Domodossola in Italy where you change to the main route to Brig through the Simplon Tunnel into Switzerland.
Day 7. Visit Zermatt or the Aletsch Glacier
With your Swiss Travel Pass you can visit the famous resort of Zermatt where the Matterhorn seems to cast a spell over this high Alpine village. If you want to go higher there are a number of dramatic mountain railways and cable cars available at a 50% reduction. The stunning Aletsch Glacier is another incredible trip from Brig with a of villages boasting the best place to view its 14 mile length.
Day 8. Glacier Express to St. Moritz for 3 nights
Today you will join the leisurely Glacier Express train on its journey to St. Moritz in the scenic Upper Engadin region. This wonderful journey takes 6 hours in the comfort of special panoramic coaches where a 3 course lunch is served at your table and refreshments are available throughout your trip. Highlights of this classic route through the mountains include the Goms Valley, Oberalp Pass, the Rhine Gorge and Landwasser Viaduct.
Days 9-10. Time to explore this chic resort and take a day trip on the Bernina Express to Tirano
Your visit to St. Moritz and the Upper Engadin valley is greatly enhanced by FREE transport including mountain railways, buses and cable cars, giving you unlimited access to wonderful walks and excursions, including the excellent panoramic walk at Alp Languard with views over the Bernina massif.
