Check in to your hotel for your 2 night stay and enjoy the charming resort of Arosa.
Day 2. Arosa and the high Alps
Arosa is an attractive village and one of the highest resorts in Switzerland, situated at 1,800m and our hotel guests benefit from the Arosa All-Inclusive Card which gives you free transportation into the mountains where you can enjoy the stunning scenery on leisurely walks along well prepared and signposted hiking paths. Arosa's ‘high street' - the Poststrasse - with its variety of shops and restaurants snakes up from Lake Obersee to Innerarosa where you will find the 15th century chapel is well worth a visit.
Day 3. Glacier Express to Brig
Your scenic rail journeys today starts with the hour long Arosa Line to Chur where you join the famous Glacier Express to Brig. This part of the journey takes around 4 hours and you will be served a 3 course lunch at your seat while you travel through the dramatic Rhine Gorge, known as the 'Grand Canyon of Switzerland' which certainly makes for a spectacular start to your journey. Highlights of this classic route include views of the 17th century monastery at Disentis before the highest point of the journey - the Oberalp Pass at 2,044m. You descend past the idyllic little villages of the Goms valley to Brig before checking into your hotel for your 2 night stay.
Day 4. Brig and the Valais region
Brig is closely linked to the Simplon Pass and thus is full of history relating to this traditional trading route. The Old Town has charming alleyways, historic merchants' houses and the impressive baroque Stockalper's Castle, which is well worth a visit. The town is a wonderful base from which to visit this fascinating area - recommendations include the Belalp cable car for views of the Aletsch Glacier, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and travelling to Rosswald for the stunning sunsets. Further afield, you can also visit Zermatt and the Matterhorn for the day, or even take a day trip on the Centovalli Line to Locarno. The Half Fare Card (included in the price of your holiday) allows you to fully explore the region.
Day 5. Last day
Time for a last look around Brig before you take the train back to Zurich airport for your flight to the UK.
