Holidays in Graubünden - Switzerland
Clear blue skies and deep valleys in a truly mountainous region
Switzerland’s largest canton straddling the Alps, Graubünden, is a sparsely populated canton where the sources of the rivers Rhine and Inn (En) lie, with lovely valleys, alpine lakes, large areas of forest and dramatic mountains. Zernez which lies on the railway between St. Moritz and Scuol, is the gateway to the largest national park in Switzerland.
Graubünden has a wealth of stunning railways and famous resorts. The Glacier Express from St. Moritz or Chur through to Brig and Zermatt in the Valais Region is famous as the 'World's Slowest Express Train' taking over 7 hours to cover the complete route. The Bernina Express which travels over the Alps to Italy from Davos, St. Moritz and Pontresina is another delight as a day trip or onto Lugano for a two centre holiday. Another real gem is the Arosa Line from Chur which has stunning views over its one hour journey which starts by travelling through the streets of Chur!
Whatever your reason Graubünden is a great choice – Look out for FREE travel around Davos, Klosters, St. Moritz, Pontresina and Arosa.
Choosing your resort
The Engadin Valley stretches from the upper valley around St. Moritz and Pontresina to the historic lower valley on the eastern border with Austria near Scuol. St. Moritz offers a blend of outstanding scenic landscape with Alpine lakes and high Alps combined with the chic, elegant and exclusive shops. Pontresina is close by and shares the same scenic wonder with outstanding walks situated at the mouth of the Bernina Valley but is a smaller and less fashionable, yet charming, resort. Scuol in the lower valley is an outstanding destination split into an upper and lower village made famous by its spa and with an great range of local historical places to visit illustrating its troubled past with Austria.
Davos Europe’s largest mountain resort offers all the amenities of a small town, while nestling in a landscape of unspoilt natural beauty and mountain splendour. This long and narrow town lies on the floor of a mountain valley and is composed of two linked parts; Davos-Dorf and Davos-Platz dominated by towering mountains. Klosters offers a unique combination of a renowned mountain resort and the idyll of an unspoilt Graubünden village. Nestling in what has remained the rural part of the Graubünden, Klosters, with its romantic village-like atmosphere, stands in stark contrast to the nearby town of Davos.
Extensive walking area in the Klosters/Davos region with 700km of trails ranging from footpaths through to demanding mountain hikes.
