Fantastic views can be enjoyed from the top of the Männlichen. There are breathtaking views of the Eiger, Mönch, Jungfrau and the surrounding mountains. The station at the top is an ideal starting point for many hiking excursions and is also the perfect place for relaxing with a drink on the superb sun terrace.
The Männlichen has something for everyone. There are routes such as the alpine road between Männlichen and Holenstein which is wheelchair accessible. Also there is a steep path back to Wengen and gentler ones towards Grindelwald. Without a doubt the 1½ hour panoramic walk to the Kleine Scheidegg will be the highlight of your hiking holiday in Wengen.
The Apple Fritter Path
The educational fruit path from Holenstein to Brandegg is always popular. Hiking time is an easy 1½ hours. The gentle hiking path offers a sensational mountain panorama of the famous Eiger north face unfolding before you. At six information posts you can test and improve your knowledge of fruit! The icing on the cake is to stop at the Brandegg restaurant for some warm apple fritters and a fruit juice.
The Royal Walk is an
exceptional trail, taking you from the
top station of the aerial cableway to the 2,345m summit in around half an hour. You'll learn fascinating facts about this alpine world at seven information points
along the way, including facts about the UNESCO World Heritage Jungfrau-Aletsch, the knots used in Alpine climbing and the ongoing fascination with scaling the Eiger. The crowning glory waits at the finish: the summit has a majestic view of the Eiger, Mönch & Jungfrau.
Mountain inn and playground
At the top of the mountain there is a lovely mountain restaurant which offers not only great views and relaxation, but hearty food and friendly service. In addition to the restaurant there is a great playground for the little ones with a huge wooden cow, balancing course and other activities. You can also observe marmots, look out for eagles or splash in the small stream.
From Wengen: the Männlichen is accessed by a modern cable car in just 5 minutes from the centre of the village. The spectacular ride climbs over 1,000m to the Männlichen summit which stands at 2,230m. The broad panorama of mountains, flowers and animals unfold during the silent ascent in the spacious cabins. Pay a small extra fee to ride in the open air balcony at the top of the cable car - unforgettable!
From Grindelwald: the Männlichen can also be reached from Grindelwald Grund (walk or take the free bus from Grindelwald village). Europe's longest gondola ride takes approximately 30 minutes, with equally stunning views. PLEASE NOTE the Grindelwald route will be closed in spring 2019, and replaced with the brand new V-Bahn, opening December 2019. The new journey will take 19 minutes and feature modern, 10 person cabins.
