The summit has fantastic views from 2,350m, taking in an amazing panorama of 693 mountain peaks.

Highlights

'Sausage Express'

A truly unique and certainly a high point of any holiday. The Express train stops at the half way point 'Planalp' where your driver and onboard fireman will cook and serve you sausages from the locomotive's original steam kettle. The conductor will serve you their patent 'rack rail' bread and included in the price is a bottle of soft drink. Departures are from Brienz at 10.00. As spaces are limited it is highly recommended to pre-book your seats (up to 14 days in advance). Prices are on request. Available Wednesdays from early June.

Steam locomotive footplate rides

Make that childhood dream come true and ride the footplate of a steam locomotive on a Swiss mountain railway! The experience is a half a day and your visit is accompanied by one of their qualified guides which also includes being shown how the locomotive is prepared. Safety and operations are explained and any of your questions will be answered. The highlight of the course is a one hour footplate ride up to the Rothorn Kulm. Reservable up to 14 days in advance and there are two departures from Brienz available daily at 08.30 & 09.30 from June to October. Prices are on request.

Restaurant

At the summit you will find the Rothorn Kulm mountain restaurant and hotel with its grand panorama terrace and breathtaking views over the Berner Oberland. It is a non smoking restaurant and is wheelchair accessible. The restaurant offers sumptuous breakfasts, hearty lunches and romantic à la carte evening dinners. In addition the open terrace is a wonderful way to watch sunrises and sunsets over the Bernese Alps and is the perfect backdrop to any memorable meal or occasion.
