The river cruise ships depart from here on their journey along the Rhine, the Main and the Main-Danube Canal. Your journey takes you to France and the Alsatian capital Strasbourg, to Germany and the baroque palace in Mannheim and the picturesque vineyards near Rüdesheim. Deeper in the heart of Germany you can walk through thousands of years of history in the medieval towns of Rothenburg, Bamberg and Miltenberg. Revel in the architectural gems on display such as the Würzburg Residenz - all this and more awaits on an adventure to experience the many medieval treasures of Europe.

Day 1 - Basel

Transfer from Basel railway station and board your luxurious river cruise ship.

Settle in to your cabin, meet your fellow cruise guests and enjoy a fabulous dinner with unlimited wine, beer or soft drinks.

Day 2 - Strasbourg

Capital of Alsace, Strasbourg is beloved for its wine culture and enchanting 16th & 17th century half-timbered houses which line La Petite France quarter, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Join a tour of the city that takes you past the stunning Parc de l’Orangerie, the European Parliament and the Place de la République and then wander through the charming streets of the iconic Petite France district and past the Cathédrale de Nôtre Dame with its famous astronomical clock. Alternatively, the active adventurer can go on a guided bike tour.

Day 2 - Strasbourg

Capital of Alsace, Strasbourg is beloved for its wine culture and enchanting 16th & 17th century half-timbered houses which line La Petite France quarter, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Day 3 - Ludwigshafen

Ludwigshafen is gateway to a choice of excursions. Visit the baroque Mannheim Palace, furnished with over 800 exhibits, including tapestries, ornate furniture and priceless paintings, recreating its bygone grandeur. Alternatively, join a walking tour of one of Germany’s oldest cities, Speyer, with the largest Romanesque cathedral in Europe - a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Or, visit the intriguing Speyer Technical Museum, with a submarine, prop planes and a Russian space shuttle. Later in the day, sail to Rüdesheim, where you’ll be treated to a Riesling wine tasting.

If you are feeling a little more active you can opt to take a hike through the charming vineyards.

For a more active adventure, hike to the Miltenberg Castle with majestic views of the town and river; or go on a guided bike ride along the river. Later, set sail for Wertheim, considered to have one of Germany’s most beautiful city centres. While here, join a walking tour or go to a pretzel bakery for a delicious tasting.

There is a choice of excursions today. Kitzingen is a fun walking tour with a Dracula theme, or you can take a bike from Kitzingen to Volkach. Alternatively, visit either Würzburg or Rothenburg. While in Würzburg, a beautiful city bursting with baroque splendor, you will visit the Residenz Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that features an opulent interior. Or, take a trip through a thousand years of history while in Rothenburg, Germany’s best-preserved walled town on the Romantic Road. Later, everyone will be treated to an exclusive wine festival in Volkach. 

Day 6 -Würzburg - Volkach

A transfer to Nuremberg station is arranged for you as you will travel by rail to Frankfurt airport for your flight home. If you have a later flight, you can store your luggage on board in order to have a look around Nuremberg before taking a later transfer.
