Merlingen nestles in a sheltered cove on Lake Thun, at the foot of the Niederhorn mountain and enjoys a mild, almost Mediterranean climate.
This is an ideal spot for a lakes and mountains holiday. You can hop on to a boat for a cruise along Lake Thun or simply relax by the water's edge at the resort's Lido. The walking on the Niederhorn gives spectacular views, and just across the lake you will find Mount Niesen, also highly recommended. The ancient limestone St Beatus caves are close by, or you could spend time in the lively resorts of Spiez and Thun, perfect for a lunchtime visit. The Bernese Oberland countryside is glorious and Merlingen is particularly well placed for exploring the Justis Valley, with is fabulous scenery and walking opportunities. Head for nearby Sigriswil and one of the largest suspension bridges in Europe - a walk across the bridge offers panoramic views over the lake and the surrounding mountains.
Just a short boat or bus ride away is Interlaken and from here, a whole host of alpine excursions are possible, as well as scenic rail journeys, connecting you with other resorts around Switzerland for a two centre holiday.
