The Kandersteg ski area
Kandersteg comprises two relatively small winter sports areas, Oeschinen and Sunnbüel.
Oeschinen with wonderful views up to the Bluemlisalp mountains, is based around the mountain lake (famous for ice-fishing) and is excellent for beginners and intermediates. There are 9km of prepared pistes with snow machines on hand to ensure continuous good skiing. There are also two cosy mountain restaurants to discover. The last 800m of the long toboggan run down to the village is floodlit every night.
Sunnbüel is a delightful area which is reached by cable car and is set on a plateau at 2,000m. Offering winter hiking, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing, this is the ideal spot in which to enjoy the beautiful winter landscape. There is a mountain restaurant with great views.

Winter walking Kandersteg is one of the most popular regions for walking all year round. In winter the trails are marked with pink signs which will lead you on routes through some truly beautiful scenery.
Cross country skiing The Lötschberg region offers the third largest cross country ski region in Switzerland. Up to 90km of prepared pistes, including the beautiful high mountain pistes at Sunnbüel.
Sledging Oeschinensee has sledging fun, where you can speed down the slope from the cable car station to the lake. Oeschiwald has a 1km toboggan run which is a treat for the whole family. It is also possible to enjoy thrilling night runs here.
Ice fishing From January to March, head to Lake Oeschinen for this unique experience.
Ski school Group lessons mornings Monday to Friday at Oeschinen. No kindergarten but children from 4 years are accepted for ski lessons.
Après ski in Kandersteg
Kandersteg has a relaxed and informal après ski scene, which is generally concentrated around the hotels and restaurants. There is a friendly atmosphere in the bar at the Hotel Adler and it is always worth popping in to the ski bar at the Victoria Ritter - this is the place to meet in Kandersteg with its English pub style and live music.
You could go bowling in the Bluemlisalp, while those who like the idea of an evening of live music from a traditional Swiss folk group should head to the Alpenblick.
