Day 1. Arrive and exploreSpiez
Flight from the UK to Zurich with rail travel to Spiez.
Check in to your hotel for your 7 night stay and get to know the town with its lovely views of the lakes and mountains. Spiez is a lively lakeside resort with a castle, plenty of restaurants and a multitude of scenic excursions within easy reach, such as the pyramid shaped Mount Niesen. We have recommended just a few here but will be happy to advise you on others you may have in mind.
Day 2. Explore Lake Thun
A leisurely cruise on sparkling Lake Thun is a must. You could pop along the lake to Thun which has two castles, great shopping and the chance to enjoy a lakeside lunch. Another popular excursion in the area is the funicular up to Beatenberg, followed by a gondola ride to the summit of the Niederhorn. There are simply beautiful views to be had, stretching from the Jura to the Bernese Alps. All journeys are included with your Pass.
Day 3. The incomparable Jungfraujoch
Visit the Jungfraujoch - 'Top of the World'. A truly magnificent journey to Europe's highest railway station, followed by views across the Jungfrau region from 3571m. This is a unique excursion, with an ice palace, a summertime snow park, mountain walking trails, restaurants, and of course stunningly beautiful views. Your journey through the mountains to the village of Wengen and the glorious views from Kleine Scheidegg is free with your Pass, while the last section to the Jungfraujoch is offered at half price.
Day 4. Swiss scenery and history
The incredible value of the Pass allows you to travel further afield. Spiez is on the route of the GoldenPass Line, along which you can enjoy lovely views of the Simmental Valley and alight in the glamourous resort of Gstaad for lunch. The Lötschberg Regio Express also calls here, so you can visit pretty Kandersteg. You might prefer to head out to explore the history and culture of Switzerland's capital, Bern. You could even follow the route across the Brünig Pass and lakes of Central Switzerland to visit beautiful Lucerne for the day. All these journeys are included in your Pass.
Day 5. The mountains of Mürren
Take a scenic journey through the mountains to Mürren, an idyllic car-free alpine village. Here you can enjoy lunch in one of the village restaurants or take the funicular to Allmendhubel for relaxing and walking. All journeys are free, while a cable car trip to the Schilthorn mountain can be enjoyed at half price. Here you will be rewarded with fabulous views, a chance to dine in the revolving restaurant featured in a James Bond film, or just the opportunity to wander on the mountain trails.
Day 6. Harder Kulm and the Schynige Platte
There are also some highly recommended trips via lively Interlaken which are included with your Pass. Take the train to Wilderswil and up to Schynige Platte with its Alpine Garden. Here you can enjoy glorious views and botanical gardens with over 600 species of alpine flowers. On your return to Interlaken, you could take the 8 minute funicular up to Harder Kulm. There are some lovely walks and on a balmy summer evening, this is a great place to enjoy dinner and sunset views over the mountains.
Day 7. Explore Lake Brienz
A free cruise along the second of Interlaken's azure lakes lets you sail past pretty lakeside villages such as Bönigen and Iseltwald, the crashing waterfall at Giessbach and finally on to the town of Brienz. After lunch in town, we can recommend a trip on the Brienzer Rothorn mountain steam railway for some beautiful panoramic views to the Jungfrau mountains and the Alps of Central Switzerland. Again, this trip is included in the price of your Pass. If you prefer walking, try the Trail of the Three Waterfalls.
Day 8. Last day
Your last chance to stroll along the lakeside, shop for a Swiss souvenir, or perhaps enjoy one more delicious pastry in a cosy café. Breathe in your last lake and mountain views before you take the train back to Zurich airport for your flight home.
Please note: the Bernese Oberland Pass is available May-October and operating periods vary for some mountain railways. Please check with us before booking if there is a particular trip you would like to make.
