This is just one example of a holiday with the lakes and mountain excursions around Grindelwald. All holidays can be adapted to your own requirements - call 0800 619 1200 for help with your planning and prices.
Day 1. Arrive and explore Grindelwald
Flight from the UK to Zurich with rail travel to Grindelwald.
Check in to your hotel for your 7 night stay and get to know this lovely alpine town. Grindelwald is perhaps the perfect summer mountain resort; nestled in the Jungfrau mountains beneath the Eiger, it has spectacular views. Grindelwald is also very well placed for exploring the region. We have recommended just a few days out here but will be happy to advise you on others you may have in mind.
Day 2. The First mountain
The cable car for the First is included with your Pass and departs from the village. There are a number of lovely walks including the Healing Herbs Trail and the path to the crystal waters of Lake Bachalpsee. On the way down, you could try out the exhilarating 'First Flyer' zip line, or alight from the cable car at Bort and hire 'trottibikes' which are great fun and can be used to scoot back down to Grindelwald. (Activities are payable locally).
Day 3. Lake Brienz and Harder Kulm
A cruise along this azure lake takes you past pretty villages such as Bönigen, the crashing waterfall at Giessbach and finally on to the town of Brienz. After sailing back to Interlaken you'll still have time for the 8 minute funicular journey up to Harder Kulm. There are some great walks and on a summer evening, this is a lovely place to enjoy dinner before returning to Grindelwald. All journeys are included.
Day 4. Kleine Scheidegg and beyond
The starting point for some of the most beautiful walks in the region. Use your Pass for the mountain train to Kleine Scheidegg at 2,061m; there are great views, including the infamous north face of the Eiger. You can relax in the restaurant, or follow the trails to Wengeneralp and the Lauberhorn or try a more challenging hike to the Eigergletscher. The Pass also covers travel to charmingWengen.
Day 5. Männlichen
Enjoy Europe's longest gondola ride to Männlichen - 30 minutes of amazing views over Grindelwald and the Alps. There are a number of marked walking trails including the Apple Fritter Trail which has views of the Eiger and a tasty treat at the end! Keep an eye out for marmots and birds of prey overhead. The Mountain Inn is the perfect place for lunch. Your gondola journeys are included with the Pass.
Day 6. The castles of Lake Thun
A leisurely cruise on sparkling Lake Thun is a must. You could alight at Thun or Spiez to explore these lively lakeside towns, each of which has pretty castles to visit and plenty of restaurants with lake views for lunch. After your time on the water, you may like to linger awhile in Interlaken, or head back to relax in the beauty of Grindelwald. Your cruise and rail journeys are included in the price.
Day 7. Schynige Platte and the Alpine Garden
For your last full day, why not use your Pass to travel down to the village of Wilderswil. From here, it's a memorable journey on the historic cogweheel railway (also included) to Schynige Platte, a sunny plateau which has glorious views of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau mountains. There is also the botanic Alpine Garden to visit, with over 600 species of delicate alpine flowers.
Day 8. Last day
Your last chance to take in the views from Grindelwald village - or perhaps if you have time, one last walk in the mountains - before you take the train back to Zurich airport for your flight home.
Please note: the Jungfrau Travel Pass is available May-October and operating periods vary for some mountain railways. Please check with us before booking if there is a particular trip you would like to make.
