Day 1. Arrive and explore Interlaken
Flight from the UK to Zurich airport with rail travel to Interlaken. Check in to your hotel for your 3 night stay and enjoy your first look around Interlaken.
Days 2-3. Interlaken and the Bernese Oberland
With your Swiss Travel Pass, Interlaken is the perfect spot from which to enjoy FREE travel around the classic Swiss scenery of the Bernese Oberland. The lakes of Brienz and Thun both have wonderful cruises to idyllic lakeside villages. Take a trip to Harder Kulm with its stunning views over Interlaken or the scenic Schynige Platte - Alpine Garden. Other trips further afield: Bern, Lucerne or Zermatt! On most scenic mountain railways you get a 50% reduction including Schilthorn - Piz Gloria and the Brienzer Rothorn steam train, a real treat for any train enthusiast, as well as many other wonderful excursions in this beautiful region. 3 nights is not enough!
Day 4. GoldenPass Line to Montreux
This scenic journey has many highlights, as the GoldenPass Line train runs alongside Lake Thun before heading into the mountains and the lush pastures of the Simmen Valley. After a change of trains at Zweisimmen, you’ll journey on to the beautiful countryside around Saanen past the alpine resort of Gstaad, before a descent with fabulous views of Lake Geneva and Montreux where you’ll enjoy a 2 night stay.
Day 5. Montreux and Lake Geneva
Montreux is one of the oldest resorts in Switzerland, with cafés and shops and a wonderful promenade which you can follow round the bay to the romantic Chillon Castle. Your Swiss Travel Pass gives you FREE travel on the lake boats and mainline trains, so you can plan a visit to historic Geneva, Lausanne and the vineyards at Lavaux.
Day 6. Montreux to St. Moritz featuring the Glacier Express between Brig and St. Moritz
The day starts with your rail travel to Brig to join the Glacier Express with your reserved seats on its journey to St. Moritz in the scenic Upper Engadin region. This wonderful journey takes 6 hours in the comfort of special panoramic coaches where a 3 course lunch is served at your table and refreshments are available throughout your trip. Highlights of this classic route through the mountains include the Goms Valley, Oberalp Pass, the Rhine Gorge and Landwasser Viaduct.
Days 7-8. Time to explore St. Moritz
Your visit to St. Moritz and the Upper Engadin valley is greatly enhanced by FREE transport including mountain railways, buses and cable cars, giving you unlimited access to wonderful walks and excursions, including the excellent panoramic walk at Alp Languard with views over the Bernina massif. Other recommendations include the funicular to Corviglia, connecting to the cable car to Piz Nair at 3,057m.
Day 9. Bernina Express to Lugano
Your unforgettable journey on the Bernina Express meanders its way up the dramatic route crossing the stunning Bernina Pass at over 2,253m. Highlights of the journey include ancient gorges and amazing viaducts before your arrival in Tirano, just over the Italian border. Here you will join the distinctive red Bernina Express Bus and enjoy views through the panoramic windows of picturesque villages alongside Lake Como before crossing back into Switzerland. You’ll have your first glimpse of the lakeside Lugano, before checking into your hotel for a 2 night stay.
Day 10. Lugano and the Ticino region
In Lugano, the Italian influence affects all aspects of life from the architecture to what you eat, and of course the shopping. Situated on stunning Lake Lugano, the town is also well placed for enjoying the mountains of the Ticino region and with your Swiss Travel Pass you can take the lake steamer to Gandria, a delightful, steep-sided village on the lakeside which makes a great place for lunch. The historic town of Bellinzona is well worth a visit, with three medieval castles demonstrating the historical importance of the town.
Day 11. Last day
Time for a last look around Lugano. Your train back to Zurich airport will travel through the new Gotthard Base Tunnel
