The Italian speaking canton of Ticino occupies the balmy lake lands of the southern foothills of the Alps. The lakeside town of Lugano is the main resort in the region with a wealth of shops, restaurants and
sightseeing opportunities both around the lake and into the mountains. Along the mainly Italian Lake
Maggiore, Ascona is a very attractive resort and for a quiet location Brissago would take some beating, whilst Locarno is larger with more to see and do.
