Niederhorn - Beatenberg - St.Beatus Höhlen is a fabulous place to spend the day and not only has plenty of hiking and walking opportunities from young to old, it also has plenty of activities for families and children. It even has caves St. Beatus Höhlen. With its amazing views and lots to see and do it really is an enjoyable day out with the family.
It is easily accessible by public transport or even by car (plenty of pay and display car parking available - payable locally). You can reach Beatenbucht by boat from Thun, Spiez or Interlaken West and from there take the funicular up to Beatenberg and from there take the cable car up to the Niederhorn. There is also the possibility of arriving by post bus from Interlaken West, Thun or Spiez. (See map below for information)
The Beatus caves are located close to Beatenhöhlen boat station and takes approximately 20-25 minutes to get to the entrance of the caves. From the car park it takes approximately 8-10 minutes. Click here for a view of the Beatenbucht train station.
Once at the top it is only a short walk to reach the summit (wheelchair accessible) and magnificent views of the Bernese Oberland with the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfraujoch are waiting for you.

The route Beat (Beatenbucht boat station) - Beatenberg funicular operates scheduled routes every 20 minutes. The first ascent is at 08.20 and the last descent is 18.04. From Beatenberg you will change onto a cable car which also operated every 20 minutes with its first ascent at 08.20 and final descent at 17.40. If there are large amounts of people they will operate a continuous service without timetable.

Hiking: The starting point of your hike begins only a few steps from the Niederhorn mountain cable car with more than 120km of hiking and mountain trails to be discovered. (Please enlarge the map of the area above for more information). The hiking times vary and a few suggested hikes are as follows:

Restaurants: There is a lovely buffet restaurant Beatenbucht almost next to the boat station. It has beautiful views over the lakes. The restaurant Berghaus Niederhorn is open for the whole summer season offering a variety of hot and cold food and drink. There is also a Bärgrestaurant on the Vorsass alp.
Trotti-Biking: Why not try the Trotti-biking experience from the middle station Vorsass, which is the starting point of the scooter trail. The scooters can be hired from the middle station and the price includes a helmet. You then return the scooter in the valley at the Niederhorn cable car station. There are specially designed scooters for children. There is a short route which takes approximately 20-30 minutes or the long route 60 minutes.

St.Beatus Höhlen is open from the 3rd Sunday in March and closes on the 3rd Sunday in October. The caves are open from 10.00 - 18.00 and the last tour is at 17.00.
Guided tours take place every 30 minutes and last approximately 1 hour. Make sure you have a light jacket with you as it can get cooler in the caves.
The cave museum is open from 10.30-17.30.
Outside of the caves are lovely walks with views of the waterfalls and playground with a dragon theme for the children.
