One of the oldest resorts in Switzerland, Montreux is situated between the lake and the mountains, dominating the lakeside with its impressive buildings and grand hotels. Elegant shops, wonderful restaurants and cafés with inviting terraces and a varied nightlife, all help make for an enjoyable holiday. In addition to its world famous Jazz Festival in July, Montreux has a reputation for fine arts and museums. Chillon, with over 800 years of history, is beautifully situated on the lakeside and is the most photographed spot in Montreux. Vevey has a lovely old town with narrow alleyways and small shops surrounding the Grande Place. Market days on Tuesday and Saturday add to the charm of this lakeside resort.
