Locarno, A small town built on the wide delta of the river Maggia, spreading out along the sunny banks of Lake Maggiore with its variety of visits both into the mountains and around the lake. Locarno, with its great Italian style, comes alive during its long summer with music in the squares, cultural events and a relatively lively night life. In the heart of the town you will find the Piazza Grande, from which narrow streets lead up to the picturesque old town, which is one of the largest and most famous squares in Switzerland.
Ascona, Lying in a spectacular bay on Lake Maggiore, this is one of the most beautiful and exclusive lakeside resorts in Switzerland. The old town was built around the 16th century church of SS Pietro and Paolo with an intricate web of lanes, offering every kind of shop including smart boutiques and art galleries leads to the piazza which opens along the lakeside with its wonderful cafés. Art and culture are at home in Ascona, with evening shows, markets and traditional open air festivals and in June and July, Ascona welcomes Europe’s most important classical jazz festival.
Brissago, Perched between the shores of Lake Maggiore and the steep mountains behind, Brissago is the most southern town in Switzerland close to the border with Italy. It offers an almost Mediterranean climate and rich southern inspired vegetation. The lower and oldest part of the town developed around the Renaissance church, surrounded by century old cypresses. Along the narrow lanes leading down to the lake are picturesque corners and gardens with lemon, oranges and citrus trees growing around attractive old villas. Brissago is also famous for its islands where you will find the botanical gardens, first laid out in 1885 with over 1,500 species from around the world.
