Holidays in and around Lake Geneva - Switzerland
Towns of the Swiss Riviera, vineyards and a Mediterranean atmosphere.
The grand style of the traditional resorts that grace the shoreline demonstrate why this is known as the Swiss Riviera. With a mild climate and promenades littered with open air cafés serving wine from the local vineyards, this the most French of all the Swiss regions.
The historical resort of Lausanne with its attractive shoreline and Olympic museum is the gateway to the terraced vineyards of Lavaux which were recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Montreux is one of the most enduring of these large lakeside resorts with its grand hotels, smart shops and a certain chic atmosphere. Vevey close to Montreux is another lakeside resort with a lovely old town. The mountains are always present at this end of the lake and wonderful small railways are there to slowly transport you to yet another world!
You can find the whole of Switzerland and more on the shores of Lake Geneva and travelling around on a great network of public transport is the best way to enjoy it. The Mediterranean atmosphere of the lakeside towns which are accessible by lake steamer, a visit to France across the lake, or a trip on the mountain railways will get you away from it all and give you the opportunity to experience the fantastic views over the lake and high Alps.
The diversity of the gastronomy and wine in this area will surprise you – savour the international cuisine, visit one of the 14 cellars in the vineyards around Lavaux and Savour, discover one of the small mountain inns or just relax on a terrace at the water’s edge – the choice is yours…
