Holidays in Lake Brienz - Brienz, Giessbach & Bönigen

Bernese Oberland, Switzerland

Stretching from the regional centre of Interlaken to Brienz, this turquoise coloured lake offers a choice of small lakeside resorts.

Brienz situated at the eastern end of the lake, often known as the village of carving, faces the dramatic Giessbach Falls, whose muted roar can sometimes be heard in the centre of town. The Ballenberg open air museum, only 2.5km from the town, has faithfully reconstructed a hundred original houses and farms from the 16th to the 19th century, from all over Switzerland. Brienz is a good centre for visits both on the lake as well as into the mountains from the Rothorn railway and via the nearby resort of Meiringen.

Giessbach, with its impressive waterfalls is set above the lake with incredible views as well as some wonderful walks.

Bönigen is one of the attractive lakeside resorts of Interlaken offering the charm of a small flower-decked village yet only ten minutes by bus from the centre of Interlaken. Bönigen has the benefit of the full range  of visits around the region allowing you to stay in a beautiful, tranquil and relaxing setting. It has its own boat station which links to the other villages around the lake.
