From Interlaken 74Sfrs or 37Sfrs with your half fare card

Kleine Scheidegg is located above the Lauterbrunnen and Grindelwald valleys at 2,061 metres above sea level, at the foot of the towering snow-capped trio of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. A popular meeting point for climbers and hikers from around the world.

Kleine Scheidegg is the starting point for some of the most stunning hikes in the region

Directions: Kleine Scheidegg has long been one of Europe's top holiday attractions, easily accessible by the Wengeralp railway from Grindelwald, Wengen or Lauterbrunnen. This is also the point where the Jungfrau railway begins its remarkable journey up to the Jungfraujoch, Top of Europe. Situated at 3,454 metres, this is Europe's highest altitude railway station, in a world of eternal ice and snow which belongs to the Jungfrau-Aletsch-Bietschorn UNESCO world heritage site. If you are arriving by car, there is plenty of parking facilities at Grindelwald Grund station.

Hiking: There are a wealth of hikes possible from the Kleine Scheidegg with hikes down  to Wengen (roughly 2 hours), Grindelwald (roughly 4 hours) or to the nearby Lauberhorn (1 hour). They are relatively easy going trails. There is a tougher walk which is the one hour trail up to the Eigergletscher train station, where you will have views of the massive ice sheet. In the other direction you are able to hike over to the Männlichen which is perched on a ridge and this hike is virtually flat all the way. From Männlichen you can either take the cable car down to Wengen or the gondola down to Grindelwald. This Gondola ride is the longest in Europe and takes some 40 minutes. Alternatively the keen hiker may like to hike back down to either Wengen or Grindelwald from here. Please click here for a map of the area. It will show you a range of hiking routes.

Restaurants: Why not stop at the station restaurant after a pleasant hike or even before you set off. It's directly at the train station and offers a range of meals from their regional cuisine menu. You can even sit on the terrace just outside and enjoy the views of the towering Jungfrau panorama. By the terrace is a 'drinks tent' also offering snacks and alcoholic drinks.

Next to the station is the hotel Bellevue des Alpes where traditionally the hikers and their families meet and watch climbers of the Eiger North face. Attached to the hotel is also a restaurant with a panoramic terrace.

Across the station platform is the Tipi Bar serving snacks and drinks all day. Its a unique way to enjoy the area. They also serve breakfast and coffee in the mornings.

Only a few minutes walk away from the station is the restaurant Grindelwaldblick with a large sun terrace and stunning views.
