From Montreux in one hour, you climb by cog railway train from the palm trees on the lake shore to the edelweiss flowering above. A headland overlooking the town of Montreux, les Rochers-de-Naye provides the most spectacular view of Lake Geneva and the surrounding Alps. On a clear day, you’ll see the Eiger, the Mont Blanc massif and Geneva’s famous waterspout. At Les Rochers-de-Naye there is a panoramic restaurant, Marmot centre and Alpine garden.

Chocolate train, Montreux - Gruyères - Broc

This train is operated in conjunction with Cailler-Nestlé
with the objective of helping guests discover Swiss landscapes and traditions. Visitors travel exclusively in 1st class in authentic "Belle Époque" Pullman cars dating from 1915 and/or in modern panoramic cars. Leaving from Montreux on the Swiss riviera and passing through Gruyères and Broc, you’ll discover the country of the celebrated Gruyère cheese and delicious Swiss milk chocolate. Every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from June to October and also on Tuesdays and Fridays during July and August..

GoldenPass Classic Train Montreux - Château D'Oex - Gstaad - Zweisimmen


 A unique experience in the Orient Express spirit, with 1st class Belle Epoque coaches or 2nd class and a wine tasting cellar coach. From Montreux you rise above Lake Geneva with wonderful views over the region. You travel through mountain tunnels, changing valleys and famous resorts before reaching the highest point of your journey at 1,274m and finally arriving in the quaint village of Zweisimmen after your 2 hour journey. Daily departures and a pre-bookable cold regional dish is served either in the wine cellar coach or at your seat for 1st class passengers. 1st class VIP seats in the very front of the train are well worth booking. This train journey should be booked in advance.

Lake Steamers around Lake Geneva


The lake steamers, including five paddle steamers still in operation, offer a great way to see the many lovely lakeside villages and towns around this the bluest and largest of all the Swiss lakes. You can also cross the lake to Evian-
Thonon on the French side. Excellent catering on board and lunch is recommended as you gently navigate the lake.

Day passes 50Sfrs or 25Sfrs with your half fare card. For individual journeys and normal return tickets, you only pay the published fare.

 

Les Avants

(1,156m/3,700ft) Full-day


 By rail from Montreux to Les Avants, the funicular les Avants-Sonloup takes you to this small tourist resort with its charms of yesteryear, sitting magnificently among forests, mountains and vegetation. Famous for the whiteness of the narcissi fields in the springtime.

Vevey - Les Plélades

By lake steamer or train to Vevey and board the Star Train for the 40 minute journey through vineyards and Alpine pastures to Les Pléiades.

Territet/Montreux - Glion

(690m/2,176ft) Half-day


When it was built in 1883, the gradient of this funicular railway was the steepest in the world with an incline of 57%. It still offers the same magnificent view of Lake Geneva and Chillon Castle.

Vevey - Mont Pèlerin

 By lake steamer or train to Vevey for the funicular through the wine village of Chardonne to a terrace on the slope of Mont-Pèlerin, where you’ll find plenty of places to appreciate the views whilst enjoying a relaxing drink. A walk up to the summit brings you to the TV tower, with its high-speed Plein-Ciel glass lift whisking you up to the even better views at 1,100m.
