Guided Trekking Holiday - Swiss Alpine Crossing I

from Central Switzerland to the Matterhorn State

The first part of the crossing from the Carnic Alps follows the trail of the historic pack train from Lucerne to Obergesteln in Goms. To walk along this dream route is an expression of a sense of living - who does not dream of crossing this huge mountain range under their own steam, passing historic locations on the way? This comfortable trek on good paths is a good one for the average trekker to master.

From the monastic village of Engelberg we walk along the legendary Lake Engslen. We then come across the trails of the former pass crossers on their route to Grimsel - ultimately ending Goms in Obergesteln as the first part of the Walser colonists in the indigenous land. On route we are impressed not only by the noble mountain environment, but also by the drovers bridge at 1,720 metres above sea level - which with its 102 metre span is the highest situated suspension bridge in Europe. The alpine flora and crystal clear, deep blue mountain lakes can be seen.
