In eight one-day stages, the TransTicino leads from the foot of the Gotthard Massif right to Mendrisiotto on the Italian border. The stretch unites the mountain-biking highpoints of Tessin to create an unforgettable journey: Strada degli Alpi, Passo del Sole, Lucomagno, Alpe di Gesero, Cardada, Rasa, Monte Tamaro, Monte Bar and Bellavista promise a superlative mountain-biking experience. The route comes extremely close to being the ultimate dream in mountain bike tours.

Day 1
Arrive in Airolo

We will arrange your travel to Switzerland and on to to Airolo from the UK to suit your individual requirements. An overnight stay in Airolo before meeting you guide for your mountain bike holiday

Day 2
Airolo - Val Piora
Approximately 44 Km
(2,000m altitude differential)

The tour will begin in Airolo. The Strada degli Alpi in Val Bedretto takes us from one Alp to the next. Afterwards, ascension through the wildly romantic Val Piora, passing the picturesque Lago Ritom, to Capanna Cádagno.

Day 3
Val Piora - Biasca
Approximately 46 Km
(650m altitude differential)

After the unique landscape of Passo del Sole comes an ambitious descent. Following this, the tricky Sentiero Lucomagno runs into Val Blenio, towards Biasca.

Day 4
Biasca - Bellinzona
Approximately 55 Km

Lengthy ascent on taqrred tracks from Roverdo to Cresta dei Stabi. The descent towards Bellinzona in one of the most beautiful and longest in Tessin.

Day 5
Bellinzona to Locarno
Approximtately 44 Km
(500m altitude differential)

Travelling by the cable car the ascent to Cardada, the landmark mountain of Locarno, is childs play. The view of Lago Maggiore and the Tessin mountain panorama is unforgettable. The downhill run to Locarno is a delight to cycle-technique freaks.

Day 6
Locarno to Rasa to Locarno
Approximately 50 Km
(1,400 altitude differential)

Riding throught the Centovalli, we reach the isolated mountain viallage of Rasa. We ride down challenging terrain into the valley. Once there we follow the Melezza and the Maggia back to Locarno.

Day 7
Locarno - Tesserete
Approximately 54 Km
(2,150m altitude differential)

Magical tour up to Monte Tamaro. Luckily the cable car is there to help and it takes us 1000 metres up with ease. The subsequent descent is amongst the finest there is.

Day 8
Tesserete - Lugano
Approximately 54 Km
(1,600m altitude differential)

The lake and mountain scenery on the trip to Monte Bar is unforgettable. It is followed by a never ending single trail to Passo San Lucio: A dream! and finally we arrive at the lake in Lugano with its unforgettable backdrop.

Day 9
Lugano to Mendrisio
Approximately 72 Km
(1,400 altitude differential)

|
Boat trip across the lake and mountain ascent with the cable car to Serpiano. On by bike across diverse terrain via Mendrisio to the viewpoint at Bellavista. The downhill journey over rough cart tracks once again offers much scope for fun with techniques.

Return to the UK or extend your holiday

Approximately 420 Km and 11,500 altitude differential in 8 stages. Medium length stages which sometimes contain extended inclined stretches. Occasionally, long ascending stretches are shortened with the use of cable cars. Off -road experiece is essential.
