E-Cycling tour from Zermatt to the Gotthard Massif

8 day tour

 

Mountain splendour and the Aletsch Glacier

 

This bike ride is packed full of cultural highlights and phenomenal wonders of nature. Beneath the spellbindingly magical Matterhorn, we will cycle through fabulous mountain scenery, enjoy delicious fondue and raclette, and discover more about the like of the local mountain farmers and the deeply rooted traditions of the origional people of Wallonia. We will experience the Aletsch Galcier, a UNESCO natural heritage site, in all its inexpressible beauty and magnitude. We will encounter the romantic scenery.

The tour takes you through hilly country side with regular ascents and descents. Two longer ascents on day 1 (800 metre altituded) and day 2 (1000 metre altitude). Both are manageable thanks to our E-bicycle. On day 2 you can ride on the cable car instead of climbing by bicycle.

Day 1

Travel to Zermatt



 We will arrange your travel to Switzerland and onto Zermatt from the UK to suit your individual requirements. At overnight stay in Zermatt before meeting your guide for your E-Cycling holiday.

Day 2

Zermatt to Bürchen
Approximately 25 Km



In the morning, we leave the Matterhorn behind us and travel with our trendy electric bikes along the Matter valley as far as Stalden. The first climb, to Bürchen 1,300m above sea level, awaits us. This typical Walser village is situated on a wonderful sun-drenched terrace. We will learn more about the unusual 'Suonen', the historic channels.

Day 3

Bürchen to Bettmeralp
Approximately 40 Km



We descend speedily into the Rhone Valley as far as Visp. The Rhone has its scource at Gotthard and flows through the canton of Wallonia into Lake Geneva. We cycle upstream along the river toward Brig, where we will visit the famous Stockalper Palace.

The people of Brig are proud of the Stockalper. Visiting the cellars, arcades and halls of the palace, then dreaming in the palace garden under rose bushes, enjoying the view of the monestery, the Jesuit church and Brig's Old Town with their towers - simply delightful. In the palace halls are wallpaper and silk paintings designed in Paris in the 18th century.

After a quick look around and an energizing lunch, our electric bikes takes us to Bitsch where our spectucular climb to Riederalp and Bettmeralp, 1,900m above sea level. Thanks to our electric bikes, we will accomplish this challenge with ease. If anyone prefers to be transported to the top, there is even a cable car available.

At Bettmeralp, a fabulous view of 20 4,000m mountain peaks awaits us, as well as a traditional Swiss cheese fondue!

Day 4

Altesch Gletscher a UNESCO natural heritage site
Walking time approximately 5 hours



Today you will explore the massif Aletsch Glacier by foot. A small packed lunch has been prepared for everyone.

With a length of 23Km, the Aletsch is the longest glacier in the Alps. It is surrounded by the Aletsch Forest, which, at an altitude of 2,200 meters is one of the highest stone pine forests in Europe.

The popular Aletsch hike allows us to experience the glacier and the forest at close range. After a short cable car run we start our route on top of Bettmerhorn and walk along moraine trails through the natural park. There are breathtaking views all along the way. Then it leads to Lake Märjelen and from there to Fiescheralp and back to Bettmeralp.

Day 5

Bettmeralp to Binn
Approximately 35 Km



One last look at the wonderful view and then we cycle with our bikes along the mountain track as far as Fiescheralp. After another sprint back down to the Rhone valley, we visit the picturesque vilalge of Ernen. On a village guided tour, we will discover why Ernen is known sa the 'musical village' as well the histories concealed behind the old gallows.

A short cycling stage brings us into the heart of the Binntal Landscape reserve. The Binntal (Binn valley) surprises at every turn. A world classic and award-winning gastronomy in a mountain village. World ranking architecture in a primoridal landscape.

Day 6

Binntal
Walking time approximately 3 hours



There's no better way to enjoy nature more intesively than a discovery tour on foot.

It was smuggles who came here first. They used the ols pack trail (mule trail) on their way to Italy. Then came the rock crystal prospectors. For the Binntal had already garnered earlier renown for its mieral wealth and it was tourists who arrived finally.

The Binntal landscape reserve offers primal naturalness from the mountain peaks down to the periphery of the villages - which coinicidentally are so authentic that they have earned a prize for this very attribute.

Day 7

Binntal to Oberwald
Approximately 30 Km



They valley bottom is still in morning fog, later the sun appears over the mountain and warms clammy hands. It is so flar here that even an airfield has been built. Traditional villages such as Münster and Reckingen exude their own special charm. We do have plenty of time to enjoy the Goms valley. Go for a swim in cool (max 19 degrees) lake Geschinersee or relax on the well-groomed sunbathing lawn or during a restful walk along the shores of the lake. The valley and our bicycle journey ends in Oberwald.

Day 8

Return to the UK or extend your holiday



We will arrange your return travel back to the UK. Alternatively we can arrange accommodation to suit your requirements so you can enjoy a further stay in Switzerland at your leisure.

The Glacier Express Can be added from Andermatt to St. Moritz or Davos
