Getting there: The bottom of the First cable car station is in the upper part of Grindelwald village centre. You can travel to Grindelwald by train from Lauterbrunnen/Interlaken. It is very easily accessible from Interlaken, Wengen, Mürren and Lake Thun and Brienz. There are plenty of car parking facilities if you are driving up to Grindelwald.
Grindelwald First is open from 29th May until the 24th October. The cable car stops at intermediate stations of Bort and Schrekfeld if you are a keen hiker you can leave the cable car at these stations and walk the remainder of the way up to the First.
There is plenty to see and do on the First and the information below will give you a snippet of ideas which will make you want to book your holiday to Switzerland with us immediately...!

Flowers & Healing Herbs: The many wild flowers, Alpine plants and healing herbs line the hiking trails and are simply wonderful to see. There are at least 100 different species which flourish along the route from First via Waldspitz down to Bort. Anyone who wants to learn more about Alpine flora can join the guided hike along the Healing Herbs Trail. The expert guide will let you in on a few secrets....such as which herbs make the best Alpine tea or which plants have a natural medicinal effect. Tours run from the 18th June until the 24th September.
LOWA hiking boot test Centre: The Grindelwald First area has around 100 kms of picturesque hiking trails. First is the ideal starting point for exploring the mountain world and the extensive plant and moor landscapes. This test centre is ideal for the avid hiker as you have the chance to test the newest and the most ideal hiking boots to suit your individual requirements. LOWA is a Swiss range of top quality boots and you are able to test them free of charge with expert advice throughout the hiking season. This runs from the 29th May until the 24th October.

Grindelwald First - Fun and Action: First region to offer plenty of action with the First Flyer which is guaranteed an adrenaline rush and great speeds. The First-Flyer is an 800 metre long steel cable, up to 50 metres above the ground and travel to speeds of up to 84km per hour. The flyer takes you from First down to the middle station of Schrekfeld. The ride is definitely for the adventure junkie. You are safely strapped into a seat with well constructed harnesses. At the bottom, the ride is halted by a dampening brake mechanism. Up to four people can ride down separately but simultaneously on the gigantic zip lines. This is a unique all year round attraction. Minimum weight is 35 kg and maximum weight is 125 kg. Group reservations can only be made for morning rides.

Scooter bike adventure Bort: This is fun for all the family. The scooter adventure takes you from Bort down to Grindelwald. Scooter bikes and helmets can be hired from the bottom station and the cableway stops at Bort (the first middle station) where you can begin your journey racing your friends and family back down to Grindelwald. This runs from the 29th May until the 24th October.
Children's playground Bort: This playground covers an area of 700 square metres and is right next to the Bort middle station and mountain restaurant. It offers a variety of great options for all ''children'' aged 1-99...! Landscapes to balance on, slides and pits along with great water games and much much more!. This is open from 29th May until the 24th October.

Hiking: There are several hiking routes possible from First and from the Bachalpsee with picture postcard views. Mentioned below are just a few of the endless walks on offer to you from Bachalpsee. You can even walk from the First over to the Grosse Scheidegg and from there take a post bus either back down to Grindelwald or down to Meiringen and stop off at Rosenlaui to visit the Aareschlucht on the way. The Bachalpsee is situated a little way above the First mountain station. Its reached on foot and takes approximately 45 minutes. On a day with no wind or clouds the striking Shreckhorn with its snow clad peak is mirrored in the blue crystal clear waters. Lake Bachalpsee and its idyllic settings are a favourite for photographers and postcards. The walk up to the lake is suitable for every age group and even for buggies. There are even bbq spots with a supply of wood around the lake for a spot of lunch. The roundtrip walk will be about 1 hour 40 minutes.
Special Offer: Why not enjoy the 1 hour 30 minute return walk to the Lake Bachalpsee with a meal served to you when you get there. You will each receive soup of the day, macaroni with onions and a desert and as a souvenir will be given a bottle for you to take some Bachalpsee water back home with you. This runs from 29th May until 24th October. (the tourist office in Grindelwald will be able to advise you of any further information).
Moonlit hike: On a wonderful moonlit night, the guided tour from the Schynige Platte via Faulhorn to the First is something quite special. The hike starts from Schynige Platte at around midnight. Refreshments are available en route at the Männdlenen mountain hut and the Faulhorn hotel. A hearty breakfast at the First mountain restaurant will be served. From there you will see the views of the sunrising over the mountain peaks. It is highly recommended and is a very unique experience. This runs on the 26th July, 30th July and 28th August. (the tourist office in Grindelwald will be able to advise you of any further information).
