As you arrive across the lake from Brienz, this is one of the most impressive views you will see. The Grandhotel Giessbach stands proudly near the dramatic Giessbach Falls and Lake Brienz. Dating back to 1874, this historic hotel was saved from demolition in the 1980’s by
the Swiss people and has been preserved as a monument of the ‘Grand Swiss Hotel’. Giessbach is reached via the hotel’s funicular which ascends from the boat station or by road to Brienz where the hotel run a shuttle bus 2/3 times a day.

Guest staying at this hotel should expect traditional furnishings as it is uncompromising in holding true to its historical past. The views from the terrace and the Park restaurant  facie the waterfalls and half board guests will enjoy an excellent six course dinner . The Le Tapis Rouge restaurant is recognised with 13 points in the Gault Millau fine dining guide. There is also a lounge, bar and open air swimming pool (seasonal) and the grounds offer extensive walks by the waterfall. This is a unique place to stay off the beaten track.
