Holidays in Central Switzerland
Beautiful lakeside villages, accessible mountain tops and Switzerland’s favourite city, Lucerne.
Also the historic centre of Switzerland as it was at Rütli at the edge of Lake Lucerne that the Swiss
Federation was founded in 1291, as witnessed by William Tell.
Lake Lucerne (Vierwaldstätter See) is one of the most beautiful lakes with attractive small villages such as Brunnen, which is opposite Rütli, dotted along the shore line with steep mountainsides rising from the lake.
At the opposite end of the lake, two contrasting holidays can be found: the lovely lakeside village of Weggis, with the Rigi mountain towering over it and where one of our favourite hotels is situated, or the great city of Lucerne, with its fascinating old town, cosmopolitan shopping, attractive lakeside position and two great mountain experiences a leisurely lake steamer trip away.
Enjoy this great region by using your half fare card. Most of these trips start with a leisurely cruise on Lake Lucerne which links so well with some of the greatest mountain railways in Switzerland; Pilatus with the steepest cog railway and Vitznau with the oldest cog railway. Everywhere you travel you will find a picturesque stop for a drink and don’t forget to plan enough time to enjoy lunch with a view.
The Swiss Trail
The most Swiss of all hiking trails is great fun for
everyone. It stretches 35km by Lake Uri, leading from
the Rutli Meadow across Seelisberg and Bauen to
Flüelen and then via the Tell Chapel at Sisikon over to
Morschach and on to Brunnen. Various destinations
can be combined freely using the good boat, bus and
mountain railway connecting services.
Fares depend on actual transport used. More
