Bürgenstock and Hammetschwand Lift is a fun experinece for young and old alike. With its summit station at 1,132 metres the panoramic Hammetschwand lift is Europe's tallest outdoor glass lift. It opened 105 years ago. You now get whisked up to the Bürgenstock in less than a minute and visitors will be greeted with stunning views. This was also the setting for Special Agent 007 James Bond in his pursuit of Goldfinger in 1967...
The rock face path is a traditional mountain trail and together with the Hammetschwand lift it takes you to the highest point of the city of Lucerne. From there you have stunning views of Lucerne and Central Switzerland.

Getting there: This magnificent peninsular is reached by Lake Steamer from Lucerne to Kehrsiten. You then take the nostalgic funicular to Bürgenstock where you can take a 35 minute walk to the exhilarating Hammetschwand lift. Allow plenty of time to relax and enjoy the scenery. Boats depart Lucerne on a regular basis and takes approximately 45 minutes with a frequent service from Kehrsiten back to Lucerne.

Tintoretto restaurant There are a few restaurants to choose from and the first one is the Tintoretto which serves delicious Italian cuisine on the Plazza. The Tintoretto benefits from a sun terrace and its dining room, perched high above the Lake with great views both day and night.
Piazza Cafe is located in the heart of the resort on the village square by the funicular railway. Just the place to enjoy a sip of coffee.
Self service mountain restaurant Hammetschwand is at the top of the Bürgenberg and has great views of the peaks of Central Switzerland. The walk back to the Bürgenstock is approximately one hour.

Hiking: There are six main hiking trails from the Bürgenstock funicular as follows....
1: From the Bürgenstock Funicular station, follow the Felsenweg by the lift up to the Hammerschwand lift. You descent along the mountain path to the Bürgenstock Resort. Takes approximately 1 hour 15 minutes
2: From the Bürgenstock Funicular station, take the mountain path up to the Hammerschwand and follow down to Chänzeli, along the road to the Bürgenstock Resort. Takes approximately 1 hour 50 mintues
3: From the Bürgenstock Funicular follow the road to Honegg and the hiking trail to Chänzeli, The mountain path leads down to Mattgrat and from there walk along the road to Honegg and then on to the Bürgenstock Resort. Takes approximately 2 hours 20 minutes.

4: From the Bürgenstock Funicular take the road to Honegg along the panorama terrace to Egg, on the forest path to Trogen. Follow the path and you will reach the Bürgenstock Resort. Takes approximately 1 hour 15 minutes.
5: From the Bürgenstock Funicular station follow the trail along the road to the Trogen forest path to Egg. Then walk along a dirt track to Aetschenried to the forest path to Seewligrat. After this there is a steep descent to Obbürgen and walk along the forest path to Boden and to the Bürgenstock Resort.
6: From the Bürgenstock Funicular station follow the dirt track to Boden and along the forest path to Obbürgen and onwards to Aetschenried. Again there is another dirt track to Egg. Hike along the forest path to Trogen and you will reach the Bürgenstock Resort.
