Cheese Train - Lake Geneva Memorable excursion on the 'Train du Fromage'

The Cheese Train takes you on a fantastic one hour journey with stunning winter scenery to discover Swiss traditions. The fabulous 'Belle Epoque' Pullman carriages take you to Château d'Oex for  a traditional cheese making demonstration followed by a delicious cheese fondue lunch.

 

 

 

Activities

Depart Montreux: The Cheese train will be waiting in Montreux station to welcome you on board for this fantastic experience. The journey has lovely views all the way to Château-d'Oex.

Cheese making demonstration: When you arrive in Château-d'Oex you will be taken to the 'Le Chalet' restaurant for a cheese making demonstration. They make their own 'Chalet Bio' cheese over a wood fire, just like in an alpine chalet. Before your very eyes, the cheesemaker, wearing traditional costume, will transform around 200 litres of organic milk into cheese, which you will have the opportunity to try.

Fondue lunch: Lunch will be served at the warm, cosy and authentic 'Le Chalet' Restaurant with its rustic setting. An excellent organic cheese fondue and dessert are included (drinks payable locally). 

Museum: After lunch you will taken to the Museum of the Old Pays d'Enhaut, a private museum which was established in 1922. Over the years, it has become one of the foremost museums of its type in Switzerland. You can experience life in a traditional home of yesteryear and admire the typical art of the region: handmade cut-outs.

Return journey: Your train will depart Château-d'Oex for the scenic journey back to Lake Geneva and Montreux. 


Directions

 

This excursion is available December to April, on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at 10.30. The train will departs Montreux station for the one hour hour journey to Château-d'Oex, arriving back in Montreux in the late afternoon. The price includes 1st class train travel, seat reservations, bus transfers, and all activities described above. 

Booking in advance is highly recommended
