This delightful region is well worth visiting for anyone staying in the Lake Geneva region. The steep terraces rise from the shore of the lake and are covered with vines, which have been grown here since 11th century monks discovered the area had the perfect combination of sun and soil. The modern winegrowers cultivate their vines with great pride, especially since the area has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The fourteen villages of Lavaux are charming and offer the perfect spots in which to sample the produce.
Lavaux Express: The charming land trains travel through the hills of the wine region from April to October, offering breathtaking views of the scenery. From Cully, there is a 1 hour 15 minute round trip on Saturdays, with Tuesday and Thursday departures in the summer.

Wine tasting: The different soils and microclimates of the vineyards allow for an amazing variation of flavours in the Lavaux wines. The region boasts 3 appellations and it is a real treat to visit a local cellar and sip the wine in the very village where it was produced. The Lavaux Vinorama is the region's discovery centre with fascinating information and over 280 different wines to try! Book one of the tasting packages to find your favourite. Open Wednesday-Sunday during February-May and November-December and daily June-October.
Restaurants: The villages offer some wonderful gastronomy as well as the famous wines so you can enjoy a leisurely lunch while you are in the area. You will also find live Jazz music on summer evenings in restaurants through the region.
The regional coastal train and the boats linking Lausanne, Vevey and Montreux call at many famous wine villages such as Pully, Lutry, Cully and Epesses.
There is also the 'Train des Vignes' which climbs from Vevey to the town of Puidoux. Another popular option is the nostalgic funicular from Vevey to Mont Pèlerin, which transports you through the steep terraces of Corseaux and Chardonne.
