Highlights

Journeys to the mountain

This is a very dramatic journey to the Allalin mountain. The first section of the journey has some lovely views from the cable car over Saas-Fee. You will arrive at the 3,000m Felskinn, where you can have a drink or take a scenic walk.

From Felskinn, the world's highest underground funicular will speed you through the heart of the mountain to the Mittelallalin station at 3,500m above sea level. The Metro Alpin funicular was opened in 1984 and covers a length of 1,749m, with an altitude difference of 476m between the two stations.

Refreshments

At Felskinn station you can try the Bergrestaurant for a quick bite to eat or a refreshing drink. You can also walk down the Morenia Begrestaurant for refreshments and a great view from the sun terrace.

Up at the Allalin station, we recommend that you treat yourself in the amazing revolving restaurant. It takes an hour for the restaurant to make its full 360 degree circuit so you will have plenty of time to relax and admire the wonderful, ever-changing views of the stunning mountains. The cuisine on offer is international with some Swiss delicacies. The restaurant also has a huge sun terrace where you can soak up the rays.

Ice Pavilion

The refurbished Ice Pavilion is the biggest in the world and tells the story of the 2,000 year old glacier. Walk 114 steps down into the heart of the mountain and discover an awe-inspiring glimpse into the fascinating world of eternal ice. There are stunning ice sculptures and a unique atmosphere! Visitors can now also experience an avalanche simulation with lighting effects and a shock wave that reverberates through your entire body.

The Ice Pavilion is payable locally but you have free entry in the summer when you purchase your Metro Alpin ticket with the Saastal Card.

Summer skiing

The Glacier Fun park is open during July and August from 10-2pm (if conditions allow). You can have fun on the snowtubes and skidoos for free with your Saastal Card.

You can ski even in the summer on the Allalin glacier! This is a truly special experience thanks to the pleasant temperatures and 20km of diverse glacier pistes. You might also spot national and international sports teams training at the summer skiing area. Ski passes are payable locally; equipment can be hired in Saas-Fee.

Swiss Glacier World

Fun for families on the restaurant terrace! Depending on weather conditions, children from age 7 can try out the zip wire and a challenging rope park. All ages will enjoy the remote control snowploughs, with plenty of obstacles to negotiate.

There's even a fairy carriage showing films for the children to enjoy while the parents admire the stunning views outside.

Directions

You can walk or take the bus to the valley station for the Alpin Express. Here, the cable car departs regularly for Felskinn, with some glorious views en route. From Felskinn, the Metro Alpin underground funicular operates until around 3.30pm every day.

Please check before travel for maintenance closures.
