This 43 minute journey has dedicated trains with panoramic windows to give you the best possible views of the beautiful countryside through which you will travel. Though relatively short, this route is still fully entitled to be classed as one of Switzerland's scenic journeys and we highly recommend it as a memorable day trip for anyone staying in Engelberg or Lucerne.
Highlights
Lunch in Engelberg
The trains runs regularly so it is easy to hop on and be transported to pretty Engelberg for a stroll around and a pleasant lunch in one of the village restaurants.
Walking in the mountains
There are a number of themed walking trails around Engelberg, such as the mountain flower trail. The Buirenbähnli cable car lifts will help transport you across the countryside and there are crystal clear mountain lakes to enjoy.
Mount Titlis
This famous mountain at 3,238m has snow all year round so you can enjoy snowtubing in he height of summer! There are also plenty of beautiful walks and of course panoramic views across the Alps.
A family journey
From May to October, there is an onboard treasure hunt for children travelling on the Luzern-Engelberg Express. They can spot pirates along the line and are given a treasure chest to take home.

The Luzern-Engelberg Express runs an hourly service in the high season and takes just 43 minutes, with fantastic views through the panoramic windows. Trains depart from Lucerne's main station.
