Highlights

Hiking

The Männlichen has something for everyone. There are routes such as the alpine road between Männlichen and Holenstein which is wheelchair accessible. Also there is a steep path back to Wengen and gentler ones towards Grindelwald. Without a doubt the 1½ hour panoramic walk to the Kleine Scheidegg will be the highlight of your hiking holiday in Wengen.

The Apple Fritter Path

The educational fruit path from Holenstein to Brandegg is always popular. Hiking time is an easy 1½ hours. The gentle hiking path offers a sensational mountain panorama of the famous Eiger north face unfolding before you. At six information posts you can test and improve your knowledge of fruit! The icing on the cake is to stop at the Brandegg restaurant for some warm apple fritters and a fruit juice.

Royal Walk

The Royal Walk is an exceptional trail, taking you from the top station of the aerial cableway to the 2,345m summit in around half an hour. You'll learn fascinating facts about this alpine world at seven information points along the way, including facts about the UNESCO World Heritage Jungfrau-Aletsch, the knots used in Alpine climbing and the ongoing fascination with scaling the Eiger. The crowning glory waits at the finish: the summit has a majestic view of the Eiger, Mönch & Jungfrau.

Mountain inn and playground

At the top of the mountain there is a lovely mountain restaurant which offers not only great views and relaxation, but hearty food and friendly service. In addition to the restaurant there is a great playground for the little ones with a huge wooden cow, balancing course and other activities. You can also observe marmots, look out for eagles or splash in the small stream.

Directions

From Wengen: the Männlichen is accessed by a modern cable car in just 5 minutes from the centre of the village. The spectacular ride climbs over 1,000m to the Männlichen summit which stands at 2,230m. The broad panorama of mountains, flowers and animals unfold during the silent ascent in the spacious cabins. Pay a small extra fee to ride in the open air balcony at the top of the cable car - unforgettable!

From Grindelwald: the Männlichen can also be reached from the new Grindelwald Terminal (walk there, or take the free bus from Grindelwald village). This brand new cableway with its 10 seater gondolas has cut the journey time from 30 to 19 minutes and offers stunning views.
