The Brienzer Rothorn nostalgic cog railway line has been chugging its way from the Berner Oberland village of Brienz to the Brienzer Rothorn since 1892. With three generations of steam locomotives, it is the only steam powered cogwheel railway system to provide daily steam train services during the entire summer season. The summit has fantastic views from 2,350m, taking in an amazing panorama of 693 mountain peaks.

Highlights

'Sausage Express'

A truly unique and certainly a high point of any holiday. The Express train stops at the half way point 'Planalp' where your driver and onboard fireman will cook and serve you sausages from the locomotive's original steam kettle. The conductor will serve you their patent 'rack rail' bread and included in the price is a bottle of soft drink. Departures are from Brienz at 10.00. As spaces are limited it is highly recommended to pre-book your seats (up to 14 days in advance). Prices are on request. Available Wednesdays and Saturdays from early June.

Restaurant

At the summit you will find the Rothorn Kulm mountain restaurant and hotel with its grand panorama terrace and breathtaking views over the Berner Oberland. It is a non smoking restaurant and is wheelchair accessible. The restaurant offers sumptuous breakfasts, hearty lunches and romantic à la carte evening dinners. In addition the open terrace is a wonderful way to watch sunrises and sunsets over the Bernese Alps and is the perfect backdrop to any memorable meal or occasion.
